MASTODON'S CURL OF THE BURL

It's pretty hard (or NOT) to predict Mastodon's direction regarding each album they put out which are not comparable at all with one another. Don't be surprised, for me, Crack The Skye is still the best from what they composed overall and forever RIP CTS caz' you know Mastodon never going to put an album like that in future. Having said that Mastodon's other albums surely have a certain place in my heart and I have my eyes stucked on the forthcoming album The Hunter.

So far two songs are released, "Black Tongue" and "Curl Of The Burl". "Black Tongue" is awesome with catchy grooves and the song progresses smoothly along with a great video of making sculpture, not weird enough remembering other videos by Mastodon! But I have to admit that the lastest release "Curl Of The Burl" somewhat disappoints which sounds a bit radio pop-rock and there's nothing special about the song. What's more disappointing is that it comes off with a mundane video with shaky vivid effect of the woods (maybe LSD would give better impact for the video).

Mastodon's The Hunter will be out on September 27 via Reprise Records.

MOAB SHOWS EXACTLY HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE, STREAM AB OVO

Most bands get caught in the middle while trying to follow classic doom riff and psychadelic era producing tunes which lack direction. But LA trio Moab certainly broke the barrier with their debut LP Ab Ovo. Each songs maintain such matured 70s vibe with a blender of modern touch depicted perfectly. Instantly you know where the inspirations are coming from- Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy to name few. The guitar tone is so crunched and eerie to some respect that it gives me shivers each time I listen. It's a killer album and you should definitely stream the whole thing now. And also don't forget to check out some pictures in the link from the record release party which they celebrated in Los Angeles on June 29 supported by The Fucking Wrath and Author & Punisher; Wino joined on stage covering Pentagram along with them.

Moab's Ab Ovo came out on August 16 via Kemado Records.

DISMA HEADLINED SAINT VITUS SHOW WITH COFFINWORM, OAK AND UNEARTHLY TRANCE

Disma's debut LP Towards The Megalith sounds like it's straight out from 90s graveyard. I even dare say it's going to be one of the best death/doom release this year and decibel magazine was way out ahead when they named Towards The Megalith as one of the most anticipated albums of 2011. And why not so??? The line up featuring likes of Daryl Kahan (Funebrarum), Craig Pillard (remember early Incantation era!) delivers filthy doom laden death numbers as promised.

Download: Disma- Spectral Domination (MP3)

The urge is even more fulfilled when you get to experience such awesome release party which took place at Saint Vitus on August 6 in Greenpoint. Loss was scheduled earlier to play exclusively but later on replaced by Coffinworm which also brought a previously unreleased track "Instant Death Syndrome" as a bonus. Stream the song along with Oak and Unearthly Trance performance after the jump!
